spring break!

for the first half of the week we went camping with some folks from church. the weather was really cold the first night, but just about perfect for the rest of the trip. aside from a couple of kids vomiting, the trip was really fun.

then we went to bandera for the second half of the week to see my newest nephew. he is quite the handsome guy and super-sweet, too. we went to the river walk and played lots of games on the wii. i don't mean to toot my own horn or anything, but i set a record in the wii hula hoop challenge (toot! toot!).

today, jackson brought this hat and pair of glasses to his daddy to help him put them on. i had to take a picture because he was crackin' me up.

the next pic was taken a couple of weeks ago. i was having a frustrating day. then i heard a small crash and jackson yelled, "cookie!" i walked around the corner to find this...

in case you can't tell, there are about 30 vanilla wafers on the kitchen floor that i had just cleaned! even given my bad day, i had to smile!

38 reasons i love colin (to celebrate his 38th birthday)

1. he's a good cook
2. he can build anything
3. he gives the most thoughtful gifts
4. he is a great daddy to the kiddos
5. he loves to bake and let's the kids help him
6. he can start a blazing campfire with only one match
7. he is one of the smartest guys i know (and i am not biased)
8. he is very generous
9. he can play any sport and do it well
10. he is so creative!
11. he plans a vacation itinerary like no one i've ever seen (i'll admit...it scared me at first)
12. any free time he has, he wants to spend it with me and the kids - quite a family man
13. he has a heart for God and desires to be His servant
14. he always lets me listen to whatever i want on the radio or ipod
15. he tolerates all my shenanigans and hot temper
16. he doesn't like to dance much, but does to make me happy
17. he proposed to me after a day of good food, a movie, horseback riding on the beach and dancing...it was a day-long proposal
18. he never says anything about me spending too much money or buying stuff i don't necessarily need
19. he writes me poems (occasionally)
20. he loves Christmas and decorates the outside of our house like clark griswold (this year our house almost caught fire, but our neighbors saved the day)
21. he keeps me grounded and calms my rebellious heart
22. he does a great john wayne and eeyore imitation (actually all of his imitations sound like like a mixture of the two)
23. he thinks i'm smart and lets me edit his seminary papers (which can be good bed-time reading...:) )
24. he is the most handsome guy ever!
25. he loves to go camping
26. he makes me feel beautiful
27. he gave up his dream to follow God's lead
28. he wears cowboy boots because he knows i think it is sexy
29. he took me to see the tour of dancing with the stars

30. he supports my whimsical desires to learn guitar or speak spanish or ...whatever

31. he rarely says anything about the temperature of the house (i love it nice and toasty)

32. he is so cute when he wrestles with the kids

33. he can make our dog run laps around the yard without even touching him (buster hearts colin)

36. he always gives me the best (the newest car, the 1st class seat, the best slice of meatloaf)

37. he treats me to coldstone cake batter ice cream even when he is on a diet

38. he loves learning about things like systematic theology and hermeneutics

there are many more reasons why i love this guy, but 38 seemed appropriate. to celebrate his special day, we went to simply fondue for dinner with the rothenbergers and had one of the neatest, most memorable dinners ever.

i love you colin! thanks for 13 1/2 fabulous years of marriage!
