mother's day festivities

this weekend started off with a bang.  we did a relay for life on friday night to raise money to find a cure for cancer.  my team, which consisted mostly of junior high kiddos, wore tie dyed shirts and walked from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to support our loved ones who have fought and continue to fight the battle against cancer. 

 then we went home and slept for about 1 1/2 hours until we had to leave for the rangers ball park.  (we wanted to get there early enough to get the ball caps they were giving away).  it was our first time to visit ranger stadium and we weren't disappointed.

the girls were VERY tired from relay for life...can you tell? 

 then after church on sunday, we went hiking in a park in waco and then out to eat.  it was a great mother's day being outside and spending time with my family.

jack was plum worn out!  he fell asleep on the way home. 

our next adventure

 after some debate, my girls decided they wanted to show rabbit meat pens in the upcoming county fair.  so, we are off on our next adventure.  colin built a couple of cages and today, rex, jack and i went to go get some prize rabbits.  although i have no idea what a prize winning meat pen looks like, we have obtained 8 cuties that we hope do the trick.

awards this week

 this morning i had the priveledge of coaching the girls in their first 4H horse quiz bowl competition. 

reese's team won 1st place!

 and mackenzie's team won 3rd!

also this week, mackenzie was inducted into the national junior honor society for academic achievement and outstanding character.  if you look closely on mackenzie's left shoulder, you can see the n.j.h.s. pin she was given upon membership.

yep!  i'm one proud momma!



watching nature

 a few weeks ago we had the opportunity to explore some of our friend's property.  mackenzie took some pics that i wanted to share. 

while exploring, the girls also found some of these caterpillars.  we brought 4 of them home and were able to to watch them make a chrysalis.  so far, two of them have emerged into monarchs...so cool!
